Behavior Management

ETA:

The Cricket Way is our school wide program for motivating positive behavior. ETA stands for emotions, thinking, and actions. Our goal is to teach children to think through this process, reflect on their own behavior, and make good decisions.

         Class Rules and Consequences

         Be Kind

         Listen

         Do it the first time

         Stay on task

We will be using these rules in our class to monitor student behavior. If a child is not able to make choices that are consistent with The Cricket Way the following consequences will be used:

1st Infraction: First card is pulled. Students are reminded of the rules and given the opportunity to reflect on the inappropriate behavior.

2nd Infraction: Second card is pulled. The student will sit away from the class at lunch.   Students are encouraged during this time to again reflect on their behavior. Before returning to the group, the student and I will hold a “conference” to determine why certain actions are occurring and what needs to be done to keep it from happening again.

3rd Infraction: Third card is pulled. A phone call will be made to the child’s parents, explaining the inappropriate behaviors displayed by the child.

Reward System

Clickety’s Point System is a school wide program used to reinforce the positive behavior we desire and value. Classes can earn prizes based on a point system. This is not a competition between classes, nor is it a system of punishment. Points can be earned when the entire class brings in homework, demonstrates proper behavior at lunch, in the hallway, during Related Arts classes, the possibilities are endless. Prizes are given at 100-point increments.

Class/Student rewards – Besides the school wide reward the students in our class will be rewarded for individual positive behavior every two weeks.  They will be allowed to have a “Fun Break” for 30 minutes.  There will be fun games and music. They have to earn this reward by having “cards” left at the end of each two weeks.  The students that are unable to participate will be working on activities extended from our daily lesson. Also if your child has not pulled any cards by the end of the month, they will get a treat from my treasure box.  To help the parents keep up with their student’s totals, a weekly total will be written on their communication sheet each Friday. This will help them in setting a goal for their behavior for the next week.
